Strategic realignment: From a semiconductor concentration to a more broadly positioned portfolio

The UMBRELLA Strategy continued its strategic realignment last week. After several weeks with increased exposure to artificial intelligence and semiconductor companies, the latest portfolio adjustments reflect broader diversification across AI, healthcare, and European defense.

One of the most important developments was the re-entry of Rheinmetall following a significant price correction. This means the defense sector is once again represented in the portfolio. At the same time, the position in Alphabet was significantly expanded, strengthening exposure to AI-driven technologies.

The healthcare sector also regained importance. With Eli Lilly, Revolution Medicines, AbbVie and Johnson & Johnson, it forms a key focus of the strategy.

In parallel, exposure to the semiconductor sector was reduced. The position in Dell Technologies was closed completely.

Following these adjustments, the UMBRELLA Strategy comprises ten positions. The equity ratio stands at 99.8%, while the cash component is just 0.2%.

Overview of portfolio changes

Rheinmetall returns: Defense sector back in focus

One of the most significant portfolio decisions of the past week was the reintroduction of Rheinmetall into the UMBRELLA Strategy.

Following a significant price correction, the German defense contractor was readmitted to the portfolio and the position was subsequently increased further. The current weighting is 9.7%.

With this decision, the UMBRELLA Strategy once again strengthens its exposure to the European defense industry. The focus is on rising defense spending, the modernization of military equipment, and the long-term expansion of industrial production capacity.

The reintroduction of Rheinmetall underscores a selective positioning in the defense sector, without fundamentally changing the strategic focus on technology.

Allocation of stocks

Alphabet becomes a significant AI position

Another focus of last week’s portfolio adjustments was Alphabet.

The existing position was increased further and reached a portfolio weighting of 12.9%, compared with around 4.4% in the previous weekly overview.

Together with Palantir Technologies, Alphabet remains a core component of the UMBRELLA Strategy’s positioning in artificial intelligence.

Healthcare sector takes the lead

The healthcare sector now represents the largest sector focus within the UMBRELLA Strategy.

Eli Lilly remains, despite partial profit-taking following positive price development, one of the central portfolio positions with a weighting of 15.9%.

Revolution Medicines remains a significant biotechnology position at 15.7%. The focus is on innovative, targeted therapeutic approaches in oncology.

With AbbVie (6.5%) and Johnson & Johnson (3.2%), the portfolio also includes established pharmaceutical companies that provide additional diversification and access to medical innovation.

Together, these four companies represent around 41.3% of the portfolio.

This keeps the UMBRELLA Strategy strongly positioned in the healthcare sector, combining the growth potential of innovative biotechnology companies with the market position of established pharmaceutical groups.

Palantir and SpaceX remain core portfolio positions

Palantir Technologies is currently the largest single position in the UMBRELLA Strategy with a weighting of 16.2%, followed by Eli Lilly and Revolution Medicines.

Palantir remains a core component of the strategic positioning in AI-supported enterprise software, data analytics, and digital defense infrastructure.

SpaceX is weighted at 14.6% in the portfolio and continues to provide access to advanced technologies and space infrastructure.

Exposure to the semiconductor sector reduced

Following the previously increased expansion of semiconductor positions, the UMBRELLA Strategy has reduced its exposure to Intel and Micron Technology.

Intel currently holds a weighting of 2.6% in the portfolio, while Micron Technology accounts for 2.5%.

The reductions reflect a more selective positioning in the semiconductor sector. This is driven by increased market volatility, uncertainty regarding capital expenditure on AI infrastructure, and shifting expectations for semiconductor demand.

Both companies remain part of the portfolio. This preserves the UMBRELLA Strategy’s exposure to potential future developments in computing infrastructure and memory technologies.

Dell Technologies exits the portfolio

The position in Dell Technologies was sold completely out of the UMBRELLA Strategy.

The exit is part of the broader strategic portfolio adjustment, in which capital was specifically reallocated to other focus areas.

Although Dell Technologies remains active in enterprise technology and AI infrastructure, the UMBRELLA Strategy is currently focusing more heavily on selected companies in software, healthcare, and defense.

Market developments: Which factors influenced the UMBRELLA Strategy's investment themes?

The week of October 12 to 18, 2026 was shaped by important developments in defense, AI infrastructure, and healthcare. These events provide additional context for the UMBRELLA Strategy’s recent portfolio adjustments.

Rheinmetall expands ammunition production

On October 16, Rheinmetall announced the start of production for medium-caliber ammunition at its Albacete site in Spain. Annual production capacity is around three million components.

With this expansion, Rheinmetall strengthens its industrial manufacturing capacity and supports the long-term growth of the European defense industry.

AI euphoria meets a market reassessment

The Nasdaq Composite lost around 4.5% over the course of the week, with semiconductor stocks seeing particularly sharp price declines.

Growing questions about capital expenditure on artificial intelligence, the profitability of AI projects, and future chip demand weighed on market sentiment.

These developments provide important context for the reduction of positions in Intel and Micron Technology within the UMBRELLA Strategy.

AbbVie prepares for quarterly results

AbbVie recently adjusted its 2026 earnings guidance to account for expenses related to acquired research and development activities.

The upcoming quarterly results should provide further insight into earnings development and the operating performance of the pharmaceutical portfolio.

Outlook: The coming week from October 19 to 23, 2026

The coming week could be particularly significant for the UMBRELLA Strategy. Market focus is increasingly shifting from growth expectations surrounding artificial intelligence toward concrete corporate earnings and the profitability of investments already made.
