PayPal has initiated a recovery following the significant price decline resulting from the end of takeover talks with Stripe and Advent International. On Thursday, the stock gained nearly 4% and once again approached a key technical resistance level. Is the recent recovery an initial sign of stabilization?
PayPal has experienced several volatile trading days. After the stock was still trading above USD 61 at the end of August, it came under significant pressure following reports that Stripe and Advent International had ended their talks regarding a potential takeover of PayPal. The potential transaction reportedly valued PayPal at approximately USD 60.50 per share.
Fundamentals remain in focus
The recent volatility has not changed the fundamental picture presented in our PayPal valuation analysis.
In the second quarter of 2026, PayPal achieved revenue growth of 5%, while free cash flow stood at approximately USD 1.8 billion. At the same time, the operating margin and net profit declined year-over-year.
The company is also continuing its broader restructuring. PayPal confirmed that the recent personnel changes in India are part of the multi-year transformation aimed at simplifying structures and improving operational execution. The company is targeting cost savings of USD 400 million by year-end and at least USD 1.5 billion over the next two to three years.
Mixed picture among analysts
Since our original analysis, several analysts have adjusted their price targets. RBC raised the price target from USD 65 to USD 70 and confirmed the OUTPERFORM rating.

What we are watching
Fundamentally, the focus is on PayPal’s turnaround strategy, particularly on revenue growth, margins, cash flow development, and the implementation of planned cost savings.
With takeover speculation largely having exited the market, PayPal’s operational development is moving back into focus.
Key takeaway
PayPal is showing initial signs of stabilization following the significant sell-off at the end of August. However, a sustainable technical recovery has not yet been confirmed.
