Rheinmetall, a component of the UMBRELLA Strategy, recorded significant revenue growth and improved profitability in the third quarter of 2026. Rising European defense spending and higher production volumes supported the Group’s operating development.

Despite these positive results, the stock came under considerable pressure following a cut in the full-year guidance.

Financial Key Figures – Q3 2026

Rheinmetall achieved revenue of EUR 3.15 billion in the third quarter, an increase of around 36% compared to EUR 2.31 billion in the prior-year quarter.

The operating result increased by around 62% to EUR 553 million. The operating margin improved from 14.8% to 17.5%.

For the first nine months of 2026, the Group reported the following key figures:

  • Revenue: EUR 8.38 billion (+38%)
  • Operating result: EUR 1.34 billion (+68%)
  • Operating margin: 16.0% (previous year: 13.1%)
  • Rheinmetall backlog: EUR 78.0 billion

The results reflect rising production volumes and improved operational efficiency. At the same time, investments in additional production capacities and the buildup of inventories weighed on cash flow.

Stock Reaction

Despite the strong quarterly results, Rheinmetall stock came under significant selling pressure following the publication of the financial figures on November 5, 2026.

In morning trading, the stock temporarily lost around 16% and fell on the Xetra exchange from its previous closing price of EUR 1,003.40 to approximately EUR 840.

The main reasons for the negative market reaction were, in particular, the lowered full-year guidance, delays in the Arminius Boxer vehicle program, and postponed deliveries of artillery ammunition.

In addition, weaker order intake development in the quarter, negative operating free cash flow, and uncertainties regarding the timing of the implementation of major defense orders weighed on market sentiment.

The significant price decline illustrates the discrepancy between Rheinmetall’s strong operational growth and high market expectations for project implementation, revenue realization, and cash flow development.

Business Development

Growth continued to be supported by high demand for military vehicles, ammunition, air defense systems, and digital defense technologies.

The Vehicle Systems division achieved revenue of EUR 3.90 billion in the first nine months, an increase of 20%. Growth drivers were primarily European military vehicle programs.

Weapon and Ammunition increased its revenue by 34% to EUR 2.71 billion. The operating margin reached 23.4%.

The Air Defence division developed particularly dynamically with a revenue increase of 63% to EUR 731 million. Demand for the Skynex and Skyranger air defense systems remained a key growth driver.

Digital Systems recorded revenue growth of 29% to EUR 1.33 billion, supported by digitalization programs for armed forces and rising demand for networked defense technologies.

The newly established Naval Systems division contributed EUR 679 million to Group revenue in the seven months since the acquisition.

The Rheinmetall backlog reached EUR 78.0 billion at the end of September, compared to EUR 56.7 billion in the previous year. This illustrates the Group’s substantial future business volume.

Projektverschiebungen beim Arminius-Boxer-Programm und Verzögerungen bei der Abnahme von Artilleriemunition.

Quelle: Rheinmetall, 5. November 2026

Despite the positive operational development, Rheinmetall has adjusted its full-year guidance due to delays in major defense projects.

The Group now expects:
  • Revenue: around EUR 13.2 billion instead of the previous EUR 13.7–14.2 billion.
  • Operating margin: around 18.5% instead of the previous approximately 19%.

The guidance adjustment is primarily due to delays in the Bundeswehr’s Arminius project and postponed acceptance procedures for artillery ammunition.

Although fundamental demand in the defense sector remains high, the adjustments highlight the challenges in timely converting large orders into revenue and cash flow.

The development of working capital, customer prepayments, and project implementation remains significant for the coming quarters.

Strategic Context

Rheinmetall remains part of the UMBRELLA Strategy’s commitment to the European defense sector.

The quarterly results confirm the Group’s operational growth momentum, supported by rising defense budgets, the expansion of production capacities, and demand for modern military systems.

At the same time, the significant price decline and the lowered full-year guidance show that strong operational growth does not necessarily go hand in hand with positive short-term stock price development.

For the UMBRELLA Strategy, the focus remains on operating profitability, order backlog development, cash flow generation, and price momentum.

Rheinmetall’s long-term growth prospects continue to be supported by structurally rising defense spending. In the short term, project implementation, financial key figures, and further price development remain decisive.

Key Takeaway

Rheinmetall recorded strong revenue and earnings growth in Q3 2026. Despite improved profitability, the stock came under significant pressure following a cut in the full-year guidance. Project delays and weak cash flow development are weighing on the short-term outlook.
